Sculpture Catwalk at Asahi Anime Festival Brighton

Asahi Anime Festival Brighton

I had a very exciting opportunity to use my sculptures in a catwalk focusing on lolita fashion. It was my first time curating a catwalk by myself and I wanted to use the same sort of concept as Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s catwalk in Paris which was a mixture between cult party kei, punk, lolita and fairy kei fashion. I used the songs Starships – Niki Minaj and Pon Pon Pon – Kyary Pamyu Pamyu remixed together by Matt Milward. It went really well with the styles the catwalk featured.

The sculptures are meant to capture the style and in a small way the personality of the model.

“Japanese Street Fashion Show

Saturday 30th June, 3:30pm

We’ve seen Japan’s Lolita fashion trend grow in recent years, but have you ever seen Mori Girl or Cult Party Kei? Curated by Lolita fashionista and artist Emma Chipperfield, the show will combine Japan’s newest, exciting street styles with Lolita fashion. Styles that stand out as not typically lolita and that are exciting and new! The catwalk will feature an installation using soft toy-like sculptures inspired by Yayoi Kusama – each toy will accent the street style modeled. Pat Lyttle, author of the book ‘Japanese Street Style’ will also give a short talk before the show.”

Thank you to all the models and the staff from the festival. It was a really fun project!
